Windows is the most popular operating system there is pertaining to home computers, but some PC users may enjoy a program like Nexus, which transforms the Windows desktop into a Mac OS.

The Winstep Nexus Dock Program

The battle between Mac and PC isn't really close once you get past the misleading commercials and the bleed-over from the mobile market. When it comes to home computers, Windows far and away demolishes its next closest competitor. Without adding in factors like smartphones, i's really quite embarrassing for Apple. However, Mac home computer fans, while not plentiful, are supreme loyalists who appreciate many aspects of Mac over PC, including the look. Even some Windows fans get tired of how a stock PC appears, and this is why the Winstep Nexus Dock is so popular.

Winstep Nexus Dock, simply known as “Nexus” by most, is a customizable dock for your PC (think of it like a theme), designed to transform the aesthetics of the PC into a Mac. A few functions also change to mirror the Mac OS, but it's mostly about the appearance change.

Features of Winstep Nexus Dock

One of the reasons that a lot of Windows users want to switch to Mac’s look and operation is a two-parter. The first part has to do with Windows and their constant need to release basically the same functions with each OS. 8 branches out and catches up with the times a little more, but 7, Vista and XP basically have the same taskbar structure and functions. The second part is that the Mac OS (anything from Apple in general) is admired on mobile devices, and so even people who own a PC see the iOS on some devices and think, “Maybe their computers have better systems too.”

So, obviously, the first feature you really notice with Nexus is that it appears exactly like a Mac's OS. The annoying toolbar is replaced with a sleeker, more stylish Mac OS bar, which is fully functional to boot.

The next thing that's worth mentioning is that this dock isn't one solid theme. You can actually choose different Mac OS widgets, themes and configuration options from inside the program. So, if you don't like the way a default Mac OS looks and functions, you can change it to something else while still keeping the overall Mac look on your PC.

Winstep Nexus Dock has a couple of key negatives, however, including the fact that it's not as intuitive as other docks on the market. The program is free and easy to download and install, which is a big plus, but it's probably going to take a while to adjust your themes and settings to your specific tastes.
